Matt O’Herron was born in Washington, D.C. in 1970. He graduated magna cum laude from Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia with a B.A. in 1993. Mr. O’Herron attended George Mason Law School and graduated with a J.D. in 1997. He earned his M.A. from Augustine Institute in 2019. During law school Mr. O’Herron spent a semester bicycling around Ireland.
Mr. O’Herron is admitted to practice before Virginia Courts, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. He is a member of the Roanoke Bar Association, the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Inn of Court and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. O’Herron started his legal career as an insurance defense attorney litigating both personal injury cases and workers compensation claims. After a couple of years, Mr. O’Herron “switched sides” and began representing injured persons in all types of personal injury cases and workers compensation claims. Representing the worker appealed to Mr. O’Herron since he had worked in construction, landscaping, roofing, painting and asbestos removal throughout high school and until after college. He became a partner with Turbitt & O’Herron, P.L.L.C. in 2004.
Mr. O’Herron has represented clients before the Court of Appeals of Virginia in workers’ compensation cases. In Dovell v. Coffeewood Correctional Center, Mr. O’Herron convinced the Court of Appeals to overturn a decision of the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission and rule in favor of his client that an injury suffered getting down from a stool at work was compensable. In Salazar v. AAA Recycling Mr. O’Herron argued successfully that the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission had correctly found in favor of his client. Mr. O’Herron also won a result at the Court of Appeals in Morgan v. M.E. Concrete Products and Caudill v. M.E. Concrete Products. In these cases a car ran into a building at the clients’ job and crashed through the wall where the clients were sitting.
Mr. O’Herron lives in Roanoke with his wife and five children. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and keeps the score book for his kids’ basketball teams.
